Another Transition

After a solid 3 months figuring out RV life, I felt like I was starting to get the hang of things, and I was finally getting into a bit of rhythm. However, nothing was moving in the housing market which meant I was continuing to pay for a house I wasn't using. It was time to come up with a plan B. I'd left the house furnished when I first hit the road for number of reasons not the least of which is that I'd hit the wall in making decisions on what to pack, donate, or dump. I argued that leaving the place furnished would help with the house showings, but there was also a part of me that liked knowing there was still something to go back to if I decided I'd made a huge mistake.

Fortunately, things were going well on the road, and it was a good time to head back at the old homestead to finish up what I had started at the end of 2024. But first, there was my parent's anniversary to celebrate. Decisions on the house would have to wait for a bit but knowing I'd be back in Charlotte to sort out the house put me back into a transitional mindset.

The first few weeks of April 2025 were spent in Georgia and followed a rhythm similar to what I'd settled into while in Alabama. I was definitely enjoying this new work/life balance, and I was looking forward to the visit with family for my parent's anniversary celebration as in addition to spending time with my family, I'd be getting a bit of a break from work and travel before having to make the next round of decisions about the house.

The weather was also getting better as spring was really springing with the trees and flowers all coming into bloom. Thankfully, there were no tornado more scares. Just the wild fires to keep an eye on. Fortunately, the fires were all small and contained, but I could see them from my campsite so I couldn't exactly ignore them.

The time in Georgia included a LOT of wineries (majority during the anniversary celebration), a short stop at a llama farm, and a visit to the Sasquatch Museum (definitely recommend if you're in the area). All around a great 3 weeks! The only real downside was the nightmare of a driveway at the cabin my parents had booked for the anniversary visit. Beautiful spot with amazing views, but most definitely not RV friendly. It was bad enough getting up the mountain, but every time I thought about how I would get out of that spot, the road got steeper/narrower and the RV got bigger ending with me falling off the mountain and bursting into flames. The wine helped! Fortunately when the time came to actually move, it wasn't too bad (special thanks to my brother in law for his excellent navigation support). But I was left with a bit of driveway PTSD.

After the family visit, it was time to head back to Charlotte to sort out my house. While it was an exhausting period of time, I thoroughly enjoyed being able to see friends while I was there. A special shout out to Khali Yoga (and my Hydra peeps)! Without the support of the Khali community, I don't think I would have ever taken the plunge to go on the road.

To call this time exhausting is probably an understatement. Looking back, it was a compete whirl wind. There was a lot of packing up still to do, and I took advantage of being back at home base to schedule doctor/vet appoints, RV maintenance, etc. (wanted to be up to date before heading back out on the road). I was also going into the office 3 times a week. It was a jam packed 4 weeks and bit emotional. It definitely was a strange feeling being back at my old house, and this go around, I felt like I was truly saying goodbye. I'd still own the place, but it would be getting rented out and would no longer be a place I could fall back on.

It would take some time for the finality of this transition to fully hit home (pun intended). But there wasn't much time to reflect in the moment since as soon as everything was moved out, I was back on the road for a quick trip Florida to put more things into storage. I made the drive down in a single day and only spent the week before heading back out again.

Toward the end of my week in Florida, I was completely exhausted and starting to really feel the full impact of that final push in Charlotte. And by the time I left Florida, I had the start of a head cold which completely knocked on my butt the following week. While being laid up definitely gave me some time to reflect, it also threw me for a loop. But onwards I would go, as I was still determined to get up to see my daughter.
